Purpose

Provide audio notifications of incoming IRC messages.

Objectives

Recognizable sounds for different message sources (nicks)
Better event matching than the highlighting provided by XChat
Map each nick to a distinct sound, like mIRC nick colors but with audio
Something I can implement quickly and be done with it.

Dependencies

XChat 2.x
Tcl Plugin for XChat (and its dependencies, presumably including Tcl)
Festival
EsounD is supported with the optional esdplay-festival script.

Code

festival.tcl goes into your $HOME/.xchat2 directory.

festival-config.tcl is the user configuration file. You should copy this into your $HOME/.xchat2 directory, then customize it for what you want spoken. See the comments at the end of festival.tcl to understand what the various variables mean.
